Ensuring the safety of participants is our first priority at AFS and staying safe should be your highest priority, too. Please read the “Tips for Personal Safety in Japan” handbook thoroughly. AFS Japan has also sent this handbook to your host family, host school, and LP. Make sure that you discuss the contents with your host family, host school, and AFS representatives. Always listen to their advice, as they can tell you about any dangers in your hosting community and how local people deal with various situations you may encounter. Please remember that, ultimately, you are the one in the best position to maintain your own safety.
