Enter the world of AFROTURE, an immersive event that seeks to open the aperture of lens-based art to amplify Afro-Diasporan perspectives. This one-day event will take place on Saturday, February 24, 2024, in the V Building of San Diego City College. It promises to be a day of discovery through workshops, panel discussions, screenings, and an exhibition.

The theme of the AFROTURE 2024 exhibition, I See You: Beauty Through The Black Lens, is inspired by the colloquial Black phrase "I see you," which resonates as a coded expression of admiration for one's beauty and style. It seeks to disrupt traditional notions of beauty and amplify the perspectives of Black artists and the expansive Black aesthetic. 

This event is the manifestation of a partnership between the San Diego City College's Photography Program and visionary Creative Director/Curator Denali Jöel (they/them).
