Day 2

"Today was a good day", as the rapper Ice Cube once said. Although waking up early seemed to be a mandatory problem...

The second day of the conference could pretty much be called the "real" first day, for it's when we actually started debating on resolutions and clauses. It probably was the best day too. The UN sort of atmosphere could really be felt throughout the day, the morning was very calm and professional. It felt as if we were actually voting resolutions that could possibly change the world. Although past lunch, things were starting to get a little out of control in some commissions, with delegates starting to throw fits for free and declaring war...

It was nice to experience the formality of such an event.

To go a little into details of what was nice and formal, when a resolution was deemed "bad", it could be voted against, but what some delegates went for instead were the amendments. They let any delegate make a suggestion regarding the debated resolution. It would go directly to the chairs, meaning the rest of the room would only ever know about it if the amendment was passed. If the point made was good enough, multiple things could come into play. Either a clause would be stroked out, one would be added, modifications could be made... But the more cunning delegates would usually reach out for a chance to speak during POIs (Point(s) Of Information). It would allow you to do the same thing than amendments empower you to do, all while thrashing, if you could manage to, the delegate that was speaking, or exposing flaws in the resolution... That was probably the most enjoyable part of the conference.

Here's a newspaper made by the conference's press team. Isn't it great?
