WHY HAVE SUMMER READING? 

REASON 1: Reading is a skill that needs to be practiced like any other skill. During the summer months, this skill is easy to ignore. When students read over the summer, they are less likely to experience the "summer slump" when returning to school in the fall. 

REASON 2: We want to encourage students to establish a habit of reading. This will not only benefit them in the English classroom but with every other subject as well. 

REASON 3: We want to engage families to read alongside their students to promote community engagement with our schools.

Please note: Although the only courses that require summer reading assignments are on the "Honors" track, we do hope all students participate in summer reading regardless of what English course they will be taking for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.
