Mission and Vision
Kindness is an active behaviour that has the capacity to build people up, bridge divides, and make us inclined to help those who are less fortunate. Moreover, perpetual kindness has the power to improve our own well-being and transform both individual relationships and society for the better. With this conference, I want to raise awareness on how, when consistently practiced, kind, empathic, and compassionate behaviors can lead to positive outcomes at home, in school and in society overall. By bringing emphasis to the science behind kindness, I hope to build awareness around research-based evidence that kindness, while an innate human trait, can be cultivated and enhanced over time.
Founder: Shiv Dev Singh
My name is Shiv and I am the founder of the Kindness Conference. I am 17 years old and study at the American Embassy School in New Delhi. As a kid, I used to watch The Ellen Show everyday after-school, and she would conclude her show by saying,"Be Kind to One Another". I never really knew why, but had gotten used to the values of empathy through the show and my family. As a 12 year old, I thought everyone knew that the most important value that one could have, but this wasn't the case. As I became older and was exposed to more, I began to think of a simple idea that inspired my passion for discussing compassion and kindness. This was the idea that all global issues could be boiled down to a kindness related decision, in which something other than kindness was chosen to prioritize. Example: Why does corruption exist? While there are numerous complex and academic reasons for this question, simply put wealth is chosen over being kind. Looking further into the value of Kindness and doing more research on it, made me understand how little the average person knows and talks about empathy. There are numerous other physiological benefits, including lowered stress and anxiety, improved relationships, as well as social benefits. This conference aims to build awareness on why kindness is a prerequisite to an individual’s and society's well-being.
