𝗠𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗟 𝗦𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦 𝗚𝗘𝗧 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗣-𝗣 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗗!
These eight medical students underwent CHAP-P training with CHAP-P Program Coordinator Dr. Jaime Punzalan last June 19, 2025 at Ateneo de Zamboanga University.
Cardiovascular Health Assessment Program Philippines (CHAP-P) is a health initiative aimed at improving cardiovascular health across the Philippines. It focuses on providing comprehensive screenings, health assessments, and education about heart disease prevention. The program typically targets key risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) such as hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity, and smoking, with a goal of reducing the prevalence of heart-related conditions and improving the overall health of the population.
Pinaagi sa CHAP-P, ang mga estudyanteng medikal nagkat-on og mga kahibalo ug kahanas aron matabangan ang mga residente sa Paruk, Siay nga makasabot kung unsaon paglikay, pag-ila sa sayo, ug pagdumala sa high blood (hypertension) — nga mao'y usa sa pinakadako nga sakit sa kasingkasing sa atong nasud ug nag-unang problema sa panglawas sa barangay.
Para ni sa inyuha, Paruk. Mag tinabangay ta alang alang sa atoang kaugalingon, atoang pamilya, ug atoang Barangay!

Nakita usab nila ang mga speakers nga mobisita sa barangay Paruk para sa umaabot nga programa sa edukasyon sa panglawas ug pagbansay sa Barangay Health Workers.
Ang tanan niini alang sa mas himsog nga Paruk.

Ang mga Kagawad naghatag sa ilang mga sugyot sa pinalabi nga oras ug petsa sa mga programa aron masiguro nga ang kadaghanan sa gipangita nga populasyon motambong ug giisip sa mga estudyante sa medisina ang tanan.

VIA screening conducted by Siay RHU headed by Dr. Ruhida Sarabi-Saydil at Minsulao Barangay Health Station. Three (3) catchment health stations under Brgy. Minsulao were involved, including Brgy Paruk, Brgy Balingasan and Brgy Maniha.

Nagsugod ang Deworming Activity ng Health Station pinangunahan ni Ma'am Nancy Alamin ug mga BHWs ug BNS sa Paruk Elementary School. Nag apil ang mga studyante sa daycare hangtod grade 6. Uban pud ang Feeding Program sa Barangay LGU lead by Hon. Ramces Enriquez, Kagawad Wilfredo Guerrero ug Kagawad Crispin Pilapil. Daghang Salamat sa pag welcome ug suporta kanamo Ma'am Jennifer Acotanza, PES School Principal ug sa tanang teachers!

Paruk Barangay Health Workers and Barangay Nutrition Scholars underwent a Capacity Building Training. A program initiated by team Lambo Kuyog sa Paruk in partnership with SIAY Rural Health Unit, headed by Dr. Ruhida Cauba Sarabi Saydil. BHWs and BNS from neighboring barangays (Minsulao, Balingasan and Maniha) were also invited to join.

Isip kabahin sa "Presyon Kontrolado, Kinabuhi Sigurado" nga programa, usa ka Mass BP Screening ang ipahigayon sa mga Barangay Health Workers sa Paruk matag ika-15 nga adlaw sa bulan. Pinaagi niini, adunay pagmonitor sa mga pasyente nga hypertensive ug pag-diagnose sa mga nameligro.
Ang mga barangay health worker nakagamit sa ilang kahibalo ug kahanas sa pagbansay-bansay sa pagkuha sa vital signs sa pasyente, pagrehistro sa mga kaso ngadto sa CHAP ug paghatag ug health advise sa mga pasyente.
Eight medical students returned to Barangay Paruk for their third community exposure, deepening their connections and working toward improving health and well-being. Their return was met with warmth, as community members recognized them from previous visits, fostering trust and collaboration. The students engaged in health programs, consultations, and hands-on service, aiming to empower the community and create sustainable solutions. This experience helped them refine their skills and reinforced their commitment to making a difference, building trust and hope for a healthier future.

The team took part in the barangay assembly at the barangay hall, attended by local officials and workers. During the assembly, they fostered stronger connections by collaborating with government officials to align their plans with the community's needs. The team joined the immunization day at Barangay Paruk, working with barangay health workers, a nurse, and a midwife to provide essential healthcare services. They assisted in administering vaccines, educating parents on the importance of immunization, and helping prevent the spread of diseases. The team also conducted prenatal checkups for expectant mothers, offering guidance on maternal health and ensuring the well-being of both mothers and babies. This experience strengthened their understanding of rural healthcare challenges and highlighted the value of teamwork in delivering impactful health services to the community.

The team collected contact details for key stakeholders and shared their community immersion objectives. On January 15, they visited the Rural Health Unit, Municipal Hall of Siay, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development. Then, on January 21, they met with the Department of Agriculture. Finally, on January 26, they visited the Provincial Department of Health. These visits allowed the team to align their plans with available resources. They also sought advice from their preceptor to refine their approach. Additionally, the team personally delivered letters to stakeholders requesting support for their interventions. The officials were receptive and showed genuine interest, offering their expertise to ensure the success of the initiatives and reinforcing the team’s dedication to making a positive impact.

Medical students joined Barangay Paruk's Flag Ceremony and General Assembly.
Last July 1, 2024, The eight (8) medical students were invited to join the barangay's monthly general assembly and flag ceremony. The group leader, Abu Omar addressed the team's agenda for this exposure and once more asked for the community's participation. The Barangay officials, led by punong-barangay Hon. Rams Enriquez then expressed that the team will have the entire community's support.
The team is indeed joyful to be back, to be of service for the people of Paruk!

On July 2nd, the medical students volunteered their time to assist the healthcare team at Paruk Health Station. The students helped with administering routine vaccinations, providing prenatal care, and contraception administration to the local community under the supervision of Ma'am Marry Jean Bacaron, the assigned midwife at the Health Station, and some Barangay Health Workers.
It was a great opportunity for the students to gain hands-on experience while also making a positive impact.

Mass Blood Letting and Dental Drive with Siay RHU
The eight (8) medical students joined the Rural Health Unit of Siay, headed by Dr. Ruhida Saydil on the Mass Blood Donation and Dental Drive program (lead by Dr. Wennilou Perolino) conducted in Paruk, Siay, ZSP last July 22, 2024.

Empowering Rural Health: Eight Dedicated Medical Students Dive Deep into Community Wellbeing with House-to-House Surveys and Focused Group Discussions
During the second community exposure, we conducted in-depth assessments of our identified health problems in Barangay Paruk, through a combination of house-to-house surveys and focused group discussions. Our methodology involved systematically visiting residences to collect quantitative and qualitative data on health behaviors, access to medical services, and prevalent health issues. Concurrently, we facilitated focused group discussions to gain deeper insights into community health concerns and cultural factors influencing health practices. This dual approach enabled a nuanced understanding of the community's health landscape, providing valuable data for potential interventions, and improving public health strategies tailored to the specific needs of the barangay.
We, the mighty 8 Student Doctors from Ateneo de Zamboanga - School of Medicine arrived at our assigned area - PARUK, Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay Province last January 3, 2024 with Dr. Sheinorino Sotto.
Hon. Ramces R. Enriquez, Paruk's Teniente del barrio welcomed us alongside Hon. Cipriano Manoba and Hon. Jimmy Fernandez.
Siay's Public Health Nurse, Ma'am Marcelyn Bonoan together with Ma'am Marry Jean Bacaron and Ma'am Crisnilyn Octavio - Paruk's Midwives were also at the Health Station to see us.

The medical students were invited to join the barangay council’s general assembly held last January 4, 2024 where they were introduced to the whole barangay council officers, Barangay Health workers and CVOs lead by the supportive Barangay Chairman, Hon. Ramces R. Enriquez.
Team leader Assahid Khan Sabbi, informed the community of the group’s intention of collaboration with the people to, in one way or another be of help in terms of Health. With this, the barangay council pledged to provide the team with assistance and support in their endeavors all throughout their medical journey, in and out of the community. ⛰️
