For example:
After trying out some famous film motifs, I tried writing a hero motif for myself. I had Buzz Lightyear in mind for this motif.
Because he is a hero, I decided to go up in steps, to show him rising and flying to save the day!
I thought about how fanfares were often used for heroes, so chose a brass sound, and thought about making the articulation short and spiky and quite bouncy to match his personality.
If I was doing a villain, i'd probably choose more smooth articulation, like they're sneaky, and probably go for a minor tonality. I would also think about the motif maybe being quite slow tempo, or going down in pitch, maybe even chromatically to show they are evil.
