Submissions for our Spring 2026 journal are now open. We accept on a rolling basis with a deadline of March 6th, 2026, at 5:00 PM EST.
The AULR is now accepting submissions for Volume II of our online edition. We accept articles, research papers, essays, and commentaries from students and faculty at any university in any program of study as long as the submission relates to legal issues. To submit, please ensure you have read the submission guidelines and FAQs, and then proceed to complete the Google form.
Submissions must be double-spaced in Microsoft Word .doc or .docx format. While we prefer submissions that use the Bluebook citation format, we will accept submissions with citations in APA, MLA, or Chicago style. However, all accepted submissions must have their citations converted to Bluebook format before publication. Authors unfamiliar with Bluebook citations will work alongside our editorial team during the editing process, who can provide support in understanding and applying the format. Please note that the responsibility for converting citations lies with the authors, as editors will not be responsible for reformatting entire citation systems. For more information about this, please visit our Bluebook FAQ below. Submissions should also include proper in-text citations and a complete Works Cited section.
There is no strict length requirement. We accept research papers, essays, commentaries, analyses, and articles, all of which vary in length. Submissions that are excessively short or long will not be considered. Longer papers should be refined and shortened to avoid excessive length or brevity, as those factors may affect acceptance. For more information about this, please visit our FAQs below.
All submissions must include a cover page as the first page. This page should include the following information:
1. Your name
2. Current email address and phone number
3. College/University
4. Major (s) (if applicable)
5. Year of graduation/status (Undergraduate, Graduate, Faculty)
4. Title of paper
5. 250-word abstract
6. A Short explanation of when and why the paper was initially written
To ensure an unbiased review process, any personal identifying information (e.g., your name) should only appear on the cover page that you will attach as the first page of your submission.
Applicants may submit multiple works for consideration.
We welcome submissions from undergraduates, graduates, and faculty from colleges and universities worldwide—you do not have to be at Adelphi!
As a new publication, we are preparing to release our first digital Journal this Spring. Moving forward, our goal is to establish a consistent schedule with two editions annually—one in the Fall and one in the Spring.
While there is no strict length requirement, we accept articles and analyses between 500 and 2,000 words as well as pieces over 20 pages. However, longer papers should be refined and shortened to avoid excessive length or brevity, as those factors may affect acceptance. Submissions that are excessively short or long will not be considered.
If you send your submission after the deadline, we cannot guarantee that it will be submitted for consideration by the staff.
Absolutely! We welcome submissions from all students. As long as your publication meets the criteria listed on our website, submit it!
If you are unsure whether your piece qualifies, we encourage you to submit it anyway. However, AULR is committed to publishing work related to the field of law. Pieces may be written from any disciplinary perspective so long as they relate to the law or legal system. Possible perspectives include, but are not limited to, the following: history, sociology, economics, criminology, sociology, anthropology, English, biology, neuroscience, philosophy, psychology, and political science.
While we prefer submissions in Bluebook citation format, it is not mandatory at the time of submission. We also accept citations in APA, MLA, or Chicago style. However, if your submission is accepted, all citations must be converted to Bluebook format before publication. Our editorial team can assist authors unfamiliar with Bluebook citations during the editing process, but the responsibility for converting citations remains with the authors. For more information about the Bluebook citation system, please review outside resources or our recommended sources below. Resource 1 and Resource 2.
Unfortunately, we are not able to offer feedback on individual submissions at this time. If you are making a resubmission, we recommend you first revise/modify it so that it is not the exact same submission that was previously sent to us
AULR follows a two-tiered blind review process. The Editor-in-Chief and Senior Executive Editor will remove all identifying information from the submissions. The Editorial Board reads all the submitted materials and selects those chosen for the journal. Next, each accepted submission is assigned to the Senior Executive Editor, and they shall designate each submission to our editing teams, who will edit for content, grammar, and stylistic consistency. Each team works exclusively on a submission(s) and uses email, phone calls, or other methods of communication to work with the author and ensure that a collaborative and active editing process takes place. Overall, the teams work to preserve as much of the paper as possible, but authors should expect to devote a fair amount of time to editing and reworking their papers.
