Michael Windham is in his 14th year of teaching and 9th as Director of Bands and Music Department Chair at Westlake Middle School in Broomfield, Colorado. Under his direction, Westlake’s Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble have retained reputations for musical excellence, earning Superior and Excellent ratings at festivals and receiving the Colorado Bandmasters Association Exemplary Band Award in 2023, 2025 and 2026. He is dedicated to his students' personal and musical growth, having them consistently accepted into numerous honor groups, and earning Superior ratings at Solo and Ensemble.
Outside the classroom, Mr. Windham is an active clinician, presenter, and guest conductor. He works with students and music educators across Colorado, has presented multiple sessions at the Colorado Music Educators Association Conference, and led professional development workshops in several school districts. As a professional saxophonist, he has performed on many of Colorado’s premier stages, including the Bellco Theater, Arvada Center, and Red Rocks Amphitheater.
Mr. Windham holds a Bachelors degree in Music Education from the University of Northern Colorado and a Masters in Music Education from the University of Colorado Boulder. He is a member of the National Association for Music Education. the Jazz Education Network, the Colorado Bandmasters Association, and the American School Band Directors Association. He lives in Lafayette, Colorado, with his wife, Rachel and their dog Banjo.
