Q. What is 6th grade raising money for?

A. 6th graders attend an annual field trip to Keystone. This is an exciting 3 day/2 night adventure with all of their classmates and STEM Lab teachers. Surrounded by nature, students experience team building activities, class building activities, forest ecology STEM lessons, leadership, backpacking, data collection in the field during a guided hike, camp fires, and more! This year the trip will be in the spring. The 6th grade class will have several fundraisers during the year to help offset the cost of this experience.

Q. So, how does the fundraising get allocated to students?

A. All of the restaurant fundraisers and the PTO contribution will get pooled for all 84 sixth grade students. Once the fees for the buses, sub coverage (ex: someone has to cover my 7th grade classes while I am on the trip, sometimes we have to "buy" substitute teachers), and the final fees for the field trip location are figured, we can then calculate the initial field trip fee for each student. I will then launch the Butter Braids fundraiser which will benefit the 6th graders on an individual basis. For each Butter Braid item that is sold, they get about $5. I will let 6th grade students know how many Butter Braid items they need to sell so that their field trip fee will be satisfied. After the Butter Braid sale has ended, I will hand a personal letter to each student which will summarize how many Butter Braids they have sold and their final, adjusted field trip fee. There are many students each year who find that their final field trip fee is $0 because they have sold enough butter braids. I am very happy to answer any questions that families have, please email me. Field trip fees will be posted to Pay4It after the Butter Braids sale has completed.
