Athletic Training Room

What is an Athletic Trainer:

Athletic trainers (ATs) are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who render service or treatment, under the direction of or in collaboration with a physician, in accordance with their education, training and the state's statutes, rules and regulations.  As a part of the health care team, services provided by athletic trainers include primary care, injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergent care, examination and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.  The NATA Code of Ethics states the principles of ethical behavior that should be followed in the practice of athletic training.

Athletic trainers are sometimes confused with personal trainers. There is, however, a large difference in the education, skillset, job duties and patients of an athletic trainer and a personal trainer. The athletic training academic curriculum and clinical training follows the medical model. Athletic trainers must graduate from an accredited baccalaureate or master’s program, and 70% of ATs have a master’s degree.

Athletic Training Room Philosophy:

The Athletic Training Room is a place where athletes can come to a safe environment for treatment of athletic injuries.  Corey demands respect when athletes are in the athletic training room, he wants the athletes to feel safe to talk to him about anything but also remember that this is a health care facility not a place to socialize.

Treatments

Athletic Training Room Hours of Operation

The Athletic Training Room hours are after school everyday for treatment and new injury evaluations.  If Athletic Trainer is not in his office check the schedule posted on the door; he is most likely at a Varsity Game.  Make sure to notify your coach before coming as to why you're injured and why you're going to see the Athletic Trainer.

Exercises for Common Injured/Sore Areas

Most of these exercises can be done in early stages of rehab.  If you're unable to see your athletic trainer for a couple days you can always try some of these to start the rehab process.

If your injury is extremely swollen and in pain always start with Protection, Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation (PRICE).  This will help with pain swelling and get you ready to start rehab exercises
