Remote Learning

Remote Learning

Welcome families! Although remote learning was not my preferred way to start the year, I believe we can achieve the same success or growth with the circumstances we are given. Ralph Waldo Emerson said that, “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm,” and I think that is a mindset to keep with us going forward. May the force be with us!

Communication

  • Students are to use their district provided Adams 12 Gmail account (no personal accounts ).

  • The first day Zoom link will be sent to their district Gmail.

  • Schedule

Learning Platform

  • We will be using Schoology, which is very similar to Google Classroom.

      • When the classes are set up, there will be a link here.

  • All 5th grade students will have the same learning intentions and assignments as planned by the entire 5th Grade Team and directed by Dr. Mike.

Remote Learning Policies

  • Attendance Expectations:

      • Attendance will be taken and recorded twice daily. Students will be considered in attendance when they are online and attending a synchronous period of instruction, according to their schedule. Parents will continue to call their school’s attendance line to excuse absences as appropriate when the student will not be attending synchronous learning and/or attending a Learning Pod.

  • Assignment Completion/Grading Expectations:

      • Feedback and grades will be given weekly though Schoology. Parents, please log into your child’s Schoology weekly to monitor this. Check each Friday for assignments marked with an orange hexagon to know what your child is missing. Your child has 1 week to turn in work from the due date before it turns to a permanent zero score.

      • Grades that are scored out of 1 are considered only participation. Grades out of 4, are scored on the standards based grading scale. Sometimes there are not opportunities to get a 4 on every assignment.

      • Final grades will be reported in Infinite Campus. Grades in Schoology are associated with a category that is also on the report card. A holistic look at all of the grades within that category will be used to determine the overall grade for that category.

  • Homework:

      • Turn in work on time.

      • Be prepared for class.

      • Read 30 minutes every night.

      • Incomplete work is homework and will turn to a permanent zero after 1 week.

      • All work from the day will be written in the planner, even if it is complete. Students will mark an x by it when it is done.

      • Complete absent work within a reasonable timeframe. Recordings of the lessons are on the schedule.

Please ask for help when you need it. There are a lot of us thinking through the same things, and together we'll do our best to make remote learning a smooth, engaging, and purposeful experience.
