MRHS Media Production Classes

MRHS Media Production Classes focus student media work on pursuing career fields in multimedia platforms from Broadcast, Documentary, Web Based Media, to Feature Film production. Students learn the basics of Multimedia production.

Steps include:

Pre-Production: script development, location scouting, storyboarding and choosing talent/actors.

Production: creating a team that works with talent and a crew to record video and audio assets.

Post-Production: students demonstrate non-linear editing knowledge, typography skills, motion graphics development, special effects creation (including sound and visual effects), and distribution methods of their final products.

pre-Production Skills

Pre-Production skills account for 30% of a Student's Grade.

Pre-Production skills focus on students preparing and planning for what they are going to provide as their finished project. for many young filmmakers they adopt an approach of "Fire, Aim, Ready" in their approach to filming and producing products. Students often film, then try to piece something together in editing, and in the end have a project that reflects any emphasis on the preparation end.

The Pre-Production skills that need to be demonstrated vary slightly by the nature of the production but have the same fundamental questions that should be addressed before a camera is ever used.

What is the product going to address the questions of WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, WHY and HOW?

Once these fundamental questions are addressed then pre-production focuses on what elements are necessary to answer these questions from script writing to interview questions, location scouting, equipment checklists, to getting access and permission to film.

production Skills

Production skills account for 30% of a Student's Grade.

Production skills focus on students ability to operate cameras in the field and in studio settings, how to set-up their filming environment for optimal recording and working with the talent or subject matter to be filmed

The Production skills that need to be demonstrated vary slightly by the nature of the project but have the same fundamental elements that should be addressed during filming.

Students should be aware of;

The Rule of Thirds, Framing and Composition, Lighting and Audio in every project that they either direct or wok on as a production team.

These fundamental aspects of filming need to drive the production forward and use the time of all involved efficiently.

Post-Production Skills

Post-Production skills account for 30% of a Student's Grade.

Post-Production skills focus on students ability to take their initial vision from pre-production, the assets gathered during production and create a finished project.

The Post-Production skill set generally requires students to demonstrate knowledge of Adobe Premiere and After Effects as they are the primary editing and delivery tools used in class.

Post-Production focuses on Typography, Visual and Audio Elements and how the three combine to answer the questions addressed in Pre-Production.

Student delivery of their products will generally be in .mov, .mp4 and .f4v which can be brought home using USB Drives or Google Drive. Students may upload work to personal YouTube channels as well.

The Generally recognized process is 7-Steps:

1. Assembling the edit

2. Images and Graphics

3. Titles (Typography)

4. Sound Pass 1

5. Polishing the edit

6. Final Sound Adjustment

7. Final Export for distribution channels from Youtube, Vimeo, to DVD platforms
