Adair County Gifted and Talented
Welcome to the Gifted and Talented Program!
Welcome to the Adair County School District Gifted and Talented program!! My name is Candice Flatt. I have been teaching for 23 years, and for the last 8 years I have served in the role of GT program coordinator. I help about 270 students throughout the district. We find new students through tests like MAP, IOWA, Raven, and Torrence Test of Creativity conducted every six months. Students who qualify in the 96% on these tests are eligible for gifted and talented services for specific academics. Other GT areas are identified by teacher letters, checklists, portfolios, etc.
The GT Program helps students in grades 4-12 who are gifted in areas like General Intellectual, English/Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Creativity, Leadership, or Visual/Performing Arts. Visual/ Performing Arts includes the focus areas of Visual Art, Music (voice or instrumental), Drama, and Dance. Primary students who exhibit potential strengths in the areas of giftedness are serviced through the Primary Talent Pool (PTP).
All school staff, including administrators, guidance counselors, and teachers, as well as parents and students, collaborate to support the needs of gifted learners as required by 704 KAR 3:285. We always aim to give students opportunities to develop their talents, think critically and creatively, solve problems, lead others, and practice essential skills for success in the 21st century. Essential skills include:
Critical Thinking
Creative Thinking
Collaborating
Communicating
Information Literacy
Media Literacy
Technology Literacy
Flexibility
Initiative
Social Skills
