Hello!
I am Mr. Gallivan! I'm from the Worcester area and this will be my third year teaching Social Studies. I have two dogs named Buddy and Charlie. I love animals, reading (recently I've been favoring fiction over non-fiction but I like to read both), and politics. I'm excited to be joining the Grade 8 Team this year, and look forward to working with each of you as we explore our planet's ancient civilizations.
Social Studies is my passion in life. My favorite areas of history are Ancient Civilizations, US History, and US Government. I was even elected Most Likely to Become a Teacher for my 8th grade yearbook. And when I graduated from High School, I was awarded the Social Studies Department Award and the Maroon Award for citizenship. Me and social studies go way back to Middle School.
I later attended Assumption College where I majored in History and minored in Business Management. During my Junior Year, I helped organize and manage a group called Hounds Help Hunger, where we organized a food drive for St. John's Food Pantry in Worcester, MA. We also organized a town hall with Congressman McGovern, where he focused on hunger in America.
After graduating from Assumption College, I had my first career with JCPenney. At the apex of my career, I was an Assistant Store Manager of a multi-million dollar JCPenney Store in Leominster. However, the business world was not the right fit for me. Therefore, towards the end of 2016, I attained my license to teach Middle School Social Studies.
Now that I had my teaching license, I was hired at Overlook Middle School as a Long Term Substitute Social Studies teacher where I taught World Geography. Most recently, I worked at Venerini Academy, I taught World Geography, Ancient Civilizations, and US History I & II. But I also don't like to be bored, so I also volunteered at Venerini as the adviser for the National Junior Honor Society, Geography Bee, and Venerini Times (a student-led newspaper).
I love teaching Social Studies. I try to remain as current as possible with various theories and tools related to education. One of the areas I see immense educational value is in technology. I have my Level 1 Educator Certification from Google. We will be using many of the applications that Google has available to enhance out knowledge of many ancient civilizations.
My goal for this year is for us to develop a collaborative community where students work with not just myself but their peers to understand the content. I'm looking forward to the next chapter of my career at Ford Middle School! I'm even more excited to explore the wonders of Ancient Civilizations with you as your Teacher!
