Welcome to the
Center for Statistically Insane
Escape Room!

How will this Virtual Escape Room work?

Using measures of central tendency helps to give us clarity in understanding relatively large amounts of data. These interactive experiences will help you to recall and understand measures of central tendency with greater clarity.

  1. Your team will be going into your breakout groups.

  2. One person will share their screen and be the "driver" to navigate, click, and type, but everyone will help with the quest.

  3. Read the content with your team and follow the directions so that you can solve the challenge.

  4. If you aren't sure what to do, scroll down the page and look for hints.

  5. To exit each room, enter the code at the bottom of the page.

  6. There are four rooms in total.

  7. Work your way through each room and when completed write the final code for exit on the Exit Ticket on your group table.

  8. Worried you might get lost, stuck, or trapped forever? Don't worry! Reach out for help at any time!

  9. Ready to begin?

What are Measures of Central Tendency?

A measure of central tendency is a single value that attempts to describe a set of data by identifying the central position within that set of data. As such, measures of central tendency are sometimes called measures of central location. They are also classed as summary statistics. The mean (often called the average) is most likely the measure of central tendency that you are most familiar with, but there are others, such as the median and the mode.

The mean, median, and mode are all valid measures of central tendency, but under different conditions, some measures of central tendency become more appropriate to use than others.

But it still isn't clear which one we should use at which time, so we head to the center for statistics in search of answers.

while searching for the center you notice a dark haze pass over the whole of the property and you begin to wonder if you will be able to find the answers that you need. you start to notice clues all around you and wonder if these might be able to help you make your way into the center for statistics.
