Research & Professional Achievements
My research interests span environmental and stress physiology, ecology and evolution, biodiversity, conservation biology, population ecology, population genetics, environmental health, epidemiology, public health, and the biological dimensions of human wellbeing. I am especially interested in the biological responses of organisms to environmental stress, as well as in applied questions that connect biology with public health, education, ethics, and society.
A significant part of my scholarly work has examined how organisms respond to environmental stress, particularly in marine systems. My publications include studies on the physiological, metabolic, and molecular responses of marine organisms, including bivalves such as Mytilus galloprovincialis, to increasing temperature and other environmental pressures. This work contributes to a broader understanding of biological stress responses in the context of environmental change and climate-related challenges.
My recent research activity has also included work related to public health and human wellbeing. I have co-authored research on physical activity, depression, and anxiety among young adults in Greece during the COVID-19 pandemic, examining the relationship between exercise and mental health during periods of social restriction and uncertainty.
