This course aims to introduce students to major thinkers of political theory starting with Plato and continuing until Marx. The course revolves around several integral and perennial questions, such as "What is a good society and how is this to be achieved?" "In this "good society, what should be the relationship between the "rulers" and the citizens?" " What is meant by justice, and how is this to be achieved?" A close reading of the texts is complemented with the relevance of these ideas for the contemporary world. Students are challenged to think about these notions and ideas and to connect them to present-day society.
