4K Outcomes
At Our Lady Queen of Heaven School, our 4K program is designed to foster foundational skills in a nurturing, faith-filled environment. Students are encouraged to explore, grow, and develop socially, emotionally, academically, and spiritually. The following learning outcomes reflect the core developmental goals for our 4K students:
Literacy Development
• Demonstrates proper book-handling skills
• Recognizes and names uppercase and lowercase letters
• Describes details and elements in illustrations
• Identifies own name in print
• Writes first name legibly
Mathematical Understanding
• Recognizes numerals (Goal: 1–10 by January; 1–20 by May)
• Counts aloud to 20
• Identifies 11 basic colors
• Identifies 8 basic geometric shapes
• Creates and continues simple patterns
• Sorts objects by color, shape, and size
Fine Motor Skills
• Uses scissors with proper technique
• Holds writing tools with appropriate grip
• Independently buttons and snaps clothing
• Independently zips jackets or other items
Communication Skills
• Follows directions
• Participates actively in group discussions
• Listens with attention and focus
• Speaks clearly and understandably
Religious Formation
• Engages in classroom religion lessons
• Demonstrates reverence during prayer and school Masses
Social and Emotional Development
• Demonstrates respect for peers and adults
• Expresses emotions in appropriate and constructive ways
• Engages in cooperative play and shares with others
• Follows classroom routines and transitions smoothly
