Woodwinds
- You should always have at least two working reeds. Additional reeds can be purchased on Amazon or at most local music stores. 6th and 7th graders = Rico Royal size 2.5 8th graders = Rico Royal size 3
- Oboes should soak the cane of the reed for one to five minutes in water in a small cup before playing.
- If the cork fits too tightly in your instrument, apply some cork grease.
- Clarinet reeds should be kept in a reed case when not being played.
- Clarinet reeds should be replaced if the tip is split or cracked.
- Swab your Clarinet and Oboe when you are finished playing.
- Keep your instrument from hitting the floor or stand.
- Store your instrument in it's case when it is not being played.
Brass
- Store your instrument in it's case when it is not being played.
- Keep your instrument from hitting the floor or music stand.
- Oil your valves one at a time.
- Your mouthpiece can be washed with warm soapy water.
- IMPORTANT!!! If your mouthpiece gets stuck, please bring it to school for Mr. Simpson to get it loose. Parents please do not try to use at home tools on your student's instrument.
