How to Apply

• Complete and submit online: 2018-2019 ACS Pre-K Enrollment Interest Form

This form is all that is needed to be considered for Tuition enrollment. To be considered for no-cost, income-based enrollment, please also complete a program-specific application:

• For 3- or 4-year-olds income eligible for Head Start: Apply in person at Community Action Opportunities (CAO) Head Start (828-252-2495; 25 Gaston St, Asheville, NC 28801), and request 'ACS Preschool' as your preferred site. These slots are offered through a partnership with Community Action Opportunities, who will determine eligibility and work with our Preschool enrollment staff to select children based on child and family needs from their wait list.
• For 4-year-olds income eligible for NC Pre-K: Print the Buncombe Partnership for Children (BPFC) NC Pre-K Application and return it to Asheville Primary (or the BPFC) with birth certificate and income documentation. You may also pick up an application at Asheville Primary, and we are happy to assist with completion. If you are also eligible for Head Start, we suggest applying though Community Action Opportunities as their dual Head Start/NC Pre-K application will place your child on the list for slots in both enrollment options.

Enrollment Timeline

We’ll begin taking Pre-K enrollment information for 2018-2019 in early 2018. The Asheville City Schools Open Enrollment window runs February 5 - March 12. From this page or the ACS Enrollment website, complete an online 2018-2019 ACS Pre-K Enrollment Interest Form. Forms can be submitted anytime during the open enrollment window.

Pre-K capacity is limited and varies by location and enrollment option. Tuition assignments will begin March 28, using a lottery process by site. Income-based assignments typically begin in early June, pending NC Pre-K and Head Start approvals.

Our Pre-K classrooms will be part of the ACS Magnet School Open Houses from 9:00am-2:00pm January 30, 31, and February 1.
