The ABC's of Equity at OPS

Overlook Equity

Overlook Primary School  is a community that celebrates and honors every unique individual member and the multifaceted experiences that they bring to the school.  Through education, discussion, and equitable implementation of school district policies, the Overlook Equity Team will ensure an inclusive, safe, and equitable environment for all in regards to: race, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, immigration status, gender, gender identity, ability, physical appearance, religion, culture, and ethnicity.

To support educators, the New York State Education Department developed a Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education Framework that has four principles:

"The Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education Framework is intended to help education stakeholders create student-centered learning environments that affirm cultural identities; foster positive academic outcomes; develop students’ abilities to connect across lines of difference; elevate historically marginalized voices; empower students as agents of social change; and contribute to individual student engagement, learning, growth, and achievement through the cultivation of critical thinking. The framework was designed to support education stakeholders in developing and implementing policies that educate all students effectively and equitably, as well as provide appropriate supports and services to promote positive student outcomes."
