Athens City Schools
Open Educational Resources
A COMMUNITY CONNECTED BY EDUCATION.
Welcome to Athens City Schools OER. OER stands for Open Educational Resources. Traditional textbooks come with inherent challenges such as unnecessary cost and a lack of standards alignment. As a result, school systems across the U.S. are beginning to build their own textbooks and curriculum. This process involves teams of teachers curating resources or building course/content units. Once resources are curated and courses or units are created, they go through a vetting process using a rubric to ensure proper alignment to standards and alignment with elements of a high quality unit. Then units, courses, and curated resources are shared openly online using a Creative Commons Copyright License that allows other teachers the right to retain, reuse, revise, remix, and/or redistribute our work.
