Welcome to the Monthly Newsletter for the Fine Arts at ARS

Here you will find schedules, information on upcoming events, local events of interest, and any thing else we can think of pertaining to the arts, Athens, and ARS.

ARS BAND

Meet the Director

Mr. Steve Williams

Mr. Steve Williams transferred from Athens Middle School and began work on building a formal instrumental music program at ARS in January 2020. Interest has been strong and progress has been steady. The group has grown in number and along with a bluegrass band, now offers a beginning band and a stage band.

Mr. Williams is a 32 year veteran of music education with experience across broad areas of performance. He has been honored at Secondary Teacher of the Year grades 6 - 12 twice, and named one of 50 Band Directors Who Make a Difference 2015. He is married to his childhood sweetheart, Amy and has two children.

Athens Renaissance Band Rehearsal Schedule



Mondays- (for Monday and Wednesday students)

10:15 to 11:15 a.m.- Beginning Band


Tuesdays- (for Tuesday and Thursday students)

10:45 to 11:45 a.m.- Beginning Band


Wednesdays- (for Monday and Wednesday students)

10:15 to 11:15 a.m.- Students with one year’s experience.

3:00 to 4:00- String Band (Bluegrass)


Thursdays- (for Tuesday and Thursday students)

10:45 to 11:45 a.m.- Students with one year’s experience.


Fridays- 10:30-noon- Students with two or more years experience.


*Note: Tuesday and Thursday classes will now begin at 10:45. Changed from starting at 11:00.

Meet the Director

MRS ERICA HAND


Meet Mrs. Erica Hand

Athens Elementary and Renaissance School Music Teacher/Specialist

Mrs. Erica Hand is the choir director at ARS and elementary music teacher at Athens Elementary . She was previously the choir director at Athens High School and Middle School. In 2017, she was awarded Teacher of the Year for SPARK Academy at Cowart Elementary.

Prior to teaching in Athens City, she was the Choir Director for Hazel Green High School from 2009-2014.

Mrs Hand is married to Stanley Hand, science teacher at Elkmont High School and they have two beautiful children, Elijah and Mary Elizabeth.

She is also the choir director for her church, First Presbyterian Church in Athens.

FEATURED ARS FINE ARTS STUDENT

Each newsletter we will select an ARS Fine Arts Student to feature this month's feature student is Tyler Massey.


Tyler Massey is our first ARS Fine Arts featured student. He was nominated by both instructors. Tyler participates in both the band and choir programs here at ARMS.

Tyler has been a student at ARMS for 3 years. He currently plays the Trombone, and sings in the choir.

Tyler's favorite thing about performing is when the band creates harmony to make the music come together and be alive.

Tyler also enjoys sports and playing football at Athens Middle School.

Tyler's teachers both agree is very well rounded and passionate about whatever he is involved in accomplishing
