CVCC Early College Student Application
Application Information:
Early College Program Applications are due Friday, February 23, 2024. *Application is online this year*
It is the student's responsibility to check with teachers for recommendations. Request recommendations at least two weeks in advance of the deadline.
Completed applications are submitted and reviewed by the CVCC selection committee.
Students will be mailed decision letters mid-March.
Program of Study:
Two year associate degree
61 credits including general education courses that are transferrable to most Virginia public and private colleges and universities. We encourage students to check with the Admissions Office at their school(s) of interest.
Admission Requirements:
Rising high school Junior
Minimum GPA 3.3
Must complete Advanced English 10, Algebra II, Geometry, Chemistry and/or Physics and World History II by the end of the 10th grade year. Trigonometry is also highly recommended.

Submission of Early College application includes a well developed and grammatically correct essay, showcasing the student's best writing and thoughts.
Students must complete the CVCC Early College Student Application that is provided by the Counseling department and submit a separate application directly to CVCC Application for Admission. The early college application must be submitted in one sitting.

Students take mathematics & science courses at the Governor's School campus in the mornings during their 11th & 12th grade years. Student selection takes place by application & review; teacher recommendations are required. Students apply in January of their 10th grade year. The Governor's School requires the following:
Should complete Trigonometry and Chemistry by the end of the 10th grade year.
Students should have a strong passion for math & science, as is demonstrated by student's grades, SOL scores, and PSAT scores.
Students should be involved in special math/science projects, activities, and/or programs that are outside of the school environment. Students will be asked about this on their application.
Students should achieve academic awards in math/science.
Students must apply to CVCC and take the Math & English placement tests with CVCC.

Should complete Algebra II and Chemistry by the end of the 10th grade year, with a C or higher in all courses
Students should have an interest in hands-on style learning
Students should be academically mature, self-motivated, and organized
Students should have a strong interest in an engineering related career
Students should have participated in STEM related activities, projects, programs (volunteered, job-shadowed, assisted with engineering type of activities)
Students must apply to CVCC and take the Math & English placement tests with CVCC.

Students may apply for these opportunities during their 11th grade year. If selected, you would attend the program during the summer at either Longwood or Radford University. The representatives who are chosen are sponsored by the local American Legion posts.

Students may apply for this opportunity during their 11th grade year. If selected, you would earn an all-expenses paid trip to Washington D.C. While on this trip, you would visit historic sights, meet with political leaders in Congress, tour the Capitol building, and explore Washington D.C.

Students may apply for this opportunity during their 11th grade year. If selected, you would spend a week at the Virginia State Police Training Academy. Students will participate in physical fitness and classroom education, as if they were going through the law enforcement training.
