Description
This lesson was developed and taught in collaboration with the third–grade teacher. The goal was for students to engage in inquiry-based learning by researching different animal groups using a credible online source and sharing their findings through a Google Slides presentation.
Analysis
A key strength of this lesson was how it engaged students’ curiosity by allowing them to choose which animal to research and share their findings with classmates. Students had the flexibility to work independently and in groups, depending on their preference. After teaching the lesson, I reflected and adjusted my approach to better meet students’ needs. In another class, I slowed direct instruction, emphasizing proper source citation. Collaborating with teachers, I identified students needing extra support with research and Google Slides.
Reflection
Overall, this lesson was successful in providing students with an opportunity to explore an animal of interest and present their findings. My primary goal was to help students use reliable sources for research and understand the importance of proper citations. While students were engaged and enjoyed this lesson, I would add more credible sources for students to explore and use for their research.
