2023-2024 Reading Challenges:

• Texas Bluebonnet Reading Challenge

  • The Texas Bluebonnet Award is one of the most prestigious children’s choice literary awards in the United States.  Each year, 20 books are chosen for the Texas Bluebonnet Award Master List.  Schools and libraries around the state participate in the program.

  • To complete this challenge:  Students must read a minimum of five books from the list by January 31, 2024.  In February, students who completed the challenge will vote for their favorite title and be invited to a Bluebonnet award party in the library.

• Rainbow Reading Challenge

  • Rainbow Reading is designed to motivate students to read from a variety of book categories.  It works like a scavenger hunt, where students select books to read from various genres and topics.

  • To complete this challenge:  Students must complete all 6 reading cards (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Purple) by May 10, 2024.  Students that completed the challenge will be invited to a Purple People Reader party in the library.

• Little Maverick: Graphic Novels

  • The Little Maverick Graphic Novel Reading List is a recommended reading list designed for children in grades K-5. The purpose of the list is to encourage students to explore a variety of current graphic novels.

  • To complete this challenge:  Students must read a minimum of 10 graphic novels by March 29, 2024 to complete this challenge.  Students that completed the challenge can vote for their favorite graphic novel in April.
