Kelsey is a Guthrie County native, having grown up in Bayard and graduated from Coon Rapids-Bayard in 2008. Kelsey completed her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education at Grace University in Omaha. She spent her first five years teaching Preschool and ESL before making the career shift to music. She is currently in her seventh year of teaching 7-12 Vocal Music and eleventh year of coaching Large Group Speech and directing musicals. Kelsey holds a Masters Degree in Music Education from Northern State University.
Kelsey has directed the following productions at Guthrie Center and ACGC: Annie, Wind of a Thousand Tales, The Music Man, Wizard of Oz, Six-on-Six the Musical, Peter and the Starcatcher, Mary Poppins, Godspell, Newsies, and Into the Woods. Her students have earned numerous awards through the Iowa High School Musical Theatre Awards Program, including being one of seven schools recognized state-wide for Outstanding Overall Performance of a Musical (Newsies). Additional IHSTMA awards include Outstanding Ensemble (Newsies) and having several students nominated as Outstanding Performers in Principal Roles. Several ACGC students have been invited to participate in the prestigious Triple Threat program, which is Iowa's qualifier to the Jimmy Awards in New York City.
Kelsey's Large Group Speech students have also experienced tremendous success at the District and State levels, as well as have earned All State honors in Mime, One Act Play, and Musical Theatre. Her students' Come From Away Musical Theatre group won Critic's Choice in 2022.Â
In her spare time, Kelsey enjoys being outside, traveling, drinking a really good cup of coffee, and spending time with her friends and family.
