5th & 6th Grade
7th & 8th Grade
Fifth grade will focus on Google Drawings, Docs, Sheets, and Forms. We will also improve our typing skills and ability to email. The goal is to have a good understanding of these apps so that projects can be done in 6th - 8th grade. We will also introduce new technology vocabulary and discuss what makes up our "Digital Footprint." What does your Digital Footprint say about you?
Sixth grade will spend part of the session reviewing and becoming more proficient with the Google Apps. Students will also work in groups to use a variety of the apps to design their own water park (focusing on 21st century skills - problem solving, teamwork, critical thinking, communication, etc.). We will also spend some time discussing internet safety.
Seventh grade will continue to become more proficient with the Google Apps, but will more importantly begin to apply their knowledge of those apps to a project (about 1 week). The focus will turn to Financial Literacy and how they can use their Google Apps to help. The primary focus for the Financial Literacy in 7th grade will be basic budgeting skills, understanding credit & debit, and discussing life after high school.
8th grade will spend the entire session focused on Financial Literacy. We will pick up where they left off in 7th grade with the focus moving more towards real life experience. Students will be given a job (and a paycheck) and they will have to budget their money to be sure they can afford everything for class. this includes paying for the seat (house), paying for insurance, wifi, electric, gas, using the restroom, music time, etc. Our main focus will be stocks & investments, resumes and filling out applications, and life in their 20's (after college, trade school, or whatever route they decide to take.
