What is a School Counselor?

As a school counselor, I am an educator trained in school counseling, just as other educators are trained in math, science, or English. My goal at Harding is to develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive school counseling program designed to meet the needs of ALL students.

Overview of Counseling Program at Harding.

Individual Counseling: One-on-one counseling support is available to all students in grades K to 8. Students may self-refer or be referred to the counselor by staff and/or parents. Confidentiality is respected.

Mediation: Intervention between students to help resolve conflict in an appropriate way.

Classroom Guidance Lessons: Classroom guidance is one way a school counselor can affect a large amount of students at one time. These lessons are determined yearly based on school priorities and needs. Topics may include friendship skills, conflict resolution, respect, organizational skills, and career exploration.

Consultations: I often meet with teachers, administrators, community service agencies, and/or parents to discuss the needs of individual students or students at large. I am here for ALL students and want to ensure that your child has a productive and positive school year. If I can support your child in anyway, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
