We will only have a class set of textbooks so they will remain in the classroom. You may not write in the books. If we complete assignments from the book, you will write your answers on loose leaf paper. Most assignments from the textbook will be on the online platform.
Each nine weeks, you will be given 10 journal topics which will be worth 100 points. You will turn in each journal on the due date given. Once you are given the topics, you are free to work on them whenever you have time. Periodically, you will be given class time to work on them.
You will be doing independent reading throughout the year. The assignments will vary. You may be given a short story, section of a novel, article, Commonlit assignment, Readworks assignment, Blast assignment,or other type of reading comprehension activity. You may have assignments related to material you are reading on your own. Therefore, please keep a book on hand to read if you complete work early.
You will turn in your Bell Ringers and Exit Tickets for the week every Friday. Make sure to keep the form you receive on Tuesday in a safe place because you will be writing on it at the beginning and ending of each class period.
Make sure to have a folder or divider with a pocket to hold handouts that will be given out for you to keep. Some handouts will be shared in Google Classroom, but it will be wise to keep the physical copies in a handy place. Another suggestion would be to use page protectors for some of the handouts if they are important for reference throughout the year.
