Hi! My name is Mrs. Amanda Doga and I am SO excited to be a part of the Mire Elementary School family! I am also thrilled to be your child's 4th Grade Math teacher! I grew up in Rayne. I went to Central Rayne for Kindergarten, Rayne Catholic Elementary School from 1st to 8th grades, and then I went to Notre Dame for high school. After graduating in 1996, I moved on to college majoring in Elementary Education, and I graduated from University of Louisiana (UL) in May of 2002 with a degree in Elementary Education certified in grades 1-8.
I grew up in Rayne. I went to Central Rayne for Kindergarten, Rayne Catholic Elementary School from 1st to 8th grades, and then I went to Notre Dame for high school. After graduating in 1996, I moved on to college majoring in Elementary Education, and I graduated from University of Louisiana (UL) in May of 2002 with a degree in Elementary Education certified in grades 1-8.
I couldn’t wait to get into the classroom. I began teaching right away. I started off as a 3rd grade teacher at Church Point Elementary for 4 years. Then I wanted to be closer to home so I transferred to Martin Petitjean Elementary in Rayne. I taught 3rd grade there for 10 years. Then, I had the opportunity to move to South Crowley Elementary to teach 3rd grade ELA in a departmentalized setting. I taught there for 2 years. I’ve really enjoyed teaching 3rd grade for16 years, but I’ve always wanted to teach in Mire and then I was given the opportunity to teach 4th grade Science and Social Studies for three years and now going into my fifth year teaching 4th grade Math! This will be my eight year at Mire. So I have a total of 23 years of teaching experience.

I’ve been married to my amazing husband, Scott Doga, for 12 years and together we have three wonderful sons and a beautiful daughter-in-law.

Tanner is our first born son who is 23 years old and graduated from the University of Louisiana (UL) with a degree in Environmental Science. He is now currently working at the LSU Ag Center as the Research Associate in Entomology. He is married to our beautiful daughter-in-law, Madeleine. She also graduated from UL with a degree in Psychology and will soon be going for her Masters in Applied Behavior Analysis. She is currently working as a Registered Behavior Technician.

Hey there, I am Gina Istre (pronounced East). I attended the University of Louisiana (UL) where I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. Then I decided to earn a Master's Degree in Education from Northwestern State University (NSU).

I am super excited about starting my 21st year as an educator. We are going to have a wonderful school year together. You will have 3 teachers who will be here to support you in so many ways. I will be your ELA teacher. ELA stands for English Language Arts, so we will focus on developing reading and language skills.

I live in Crowley, LA, with my husband, Seth Istre. Seth and I have been married for 20 years. We have 3 children: our 24-year-old is a librarian in Atlanta, GA, our 19 year old son has joined the workforce at OES, and our youngest is a senior this year. Education and learning are very important to our family.

Teaching is a passion, but I did not grow up wanting to be a teacher. I guess you could say I fell into teaching. I went to school to be a counselor because I knew I wanted to help and support people. I grew up wanting to make a difference. After graduating from graduate school, I became a counselor and a librarian at a small private school. During the school year, I taught the junior high students a life skills class, and I LOVED it. The next year, the counselor position was cut due to funding. I was unsure of what to do next, but when they offered me a position as a 2nd-grade teacher, I knew it was exactly where I needed to be and exactly what I wanted to be doing. So, I taught 2nd grade for 10 years, 3rd grade for 1 year, and this will be my 10th year teaching 4th grade.

My husband, Josh, and I celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary this year. We have four children, three daughters and one son, with ages ranging from 16 - 22. I was born and raised in Church Point and have lived in Mire for the past 20 years. We have a dog, chickens and cows! My family enjoys the outdoors.
Get ready to learn! We will have many adventures in our class this school year as we discover how things work and as we examine other countries and cultures.
