Greetings from the IHS Agricultural Education Department
Students enrolled in agricultural classes have a unique opportunity to develop themselves as individuals and develop valuable life skills. They will have the opportunity to obtain knowledge of the food and fiber industry that affects all of us on a daily basis. They will also develop leadership & communication skills in addition to learning important technical skills such as landscaping, carpentry, welding, and mechanical skills. This is a great experience for all students, even those not directly linked to agricultural production. We expose students to as much “hands-on” experiences as possible.
Students who are enrolled in Agricultural Education courses have the opportunity to join the National FFA Organization, formerly known as the Future Farmers of America (FFA). FFA is a co-curricular organization that builds leadership skills for life, reinforces instruction and gives students opportunities to make a positive difference in their schools and communities. Through participation in FFA, young people are thoroughly prepared for successful careers and a lifetime of informed choices in the global agriculture, food, and fiber and natural resources systems. Scholarships, Leadership Experiences, Travel Opportunities, Competitions, State & National Conventions and Conferences are just a few of the benefits of joining and participating in the FFA. I highly encourage every student to join the FFA and explore the opportunities!
There is a $20.00 membership fee associated with joining the organization. I sincerely hope that you and your child will consider participation in this student-led organization.
