Greetings from the Church Point High School Agricultural Education Department! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Alyssa Stelly, and I am one of the Agricultural Education teachers at Church Point High School. I have 12 years of experience in Agricultural Education, including 10 years serving the students and families of Church Point High School. I am excited for the opportunity to introduce your child to the diverse and impactful world of agriculture and help them understand how agriculture influences our everyday lives.

Students enrolled in Agricultural Education courses have a unique opportunity to grow as individuals while developing valuable academic, technical, and life skills. Throughout the year, students will explore the food, fiber, natural resources, and agricultural industries while gaining hands-on experience in areas such as landscaping, carpentry, welding, mechanics, leadership, and communication. These skills benefit all students, regardless of whether they plan to pursue a career directly related to agriculture.

A major component of Agricultural Education is the opportunity to become a member of the National FFA Organization, formerly known as Future Farmers of America. FFA is a student-led, co-curricular organization that strengthens classroom instruction while developing leadership skills, career readiness, and personal growth. Through FFA participation, students have opportunities to compete in leadership and career development events, attend conferences and conventions, travel, apply for scholarships, serve their school and community, and explore countless career opportunities within agriculture, food, fiber, and natural resources.

I strongly encourage every student to take advantage of the opportunities available through FFA. The annual membership fee is $20.00, and the experiences gained through this organization can positively impact students throughout high school and beyond. Open communication between parents, students, and teachers is an important part of student success.
