Emergency Care
The Sports Medicine staff are all trained in emergency care from CPR and spine boarding to first aid and splinting. Staff are on-site for practices and games to ensure a safe sporting environment. We also work closely with local EMTs to ensure a quick and speedy response in emergency situations.
Evaluation
Our staff is here to evaluate and treat your athlete when any injury occurs. Athletes can be evaluated for injuries during morning/afternoon treatments. Treatment times will be communicated with in-season coaches.
Any injury that occurs during the athletic period, may be evaluated at that time.
If an injury occurs that is not an emergency, please come see us for treatment in the morning or afternoon! We are trained to evaluate and treat sport specific injuries and can help you save money on visits to the doctor. Whether it is the Shoulder, Back, Knee, or Ankle; we can help you figure out what may be wrong and assist with Doctor referral if necessary.
Treatment & Rehabilitation
Our staff is here to evaluate and treat your athlete when any injury occurs.
Injuries requiring physical therapy may be completed during morning treatments, even if physical therapy is at a clinic. If you need rehab but do not want to see a PT, come see us! We are trained in the rehabilitation of sport specific injuries.
Injury Referral
When an athlete is seen by a doctor for ANY reason, you MUST bring us a copy of the note. This includes Chiropractors.
Below is a copy of our Release to Treat Form. This helps us communicate with the doctor what services we may provide. Bring a copy of this form to any Doctor's visits.
Concussion Evaluation
Concussions are a mild traumatic brain injury and may occur from a bump or blow to the head. Concussions are typically not life-threatening, but need to be treated properly to minimize lingering effects.
Athletic Trainers are trained in the recognition and evaluation of concussions. If we suspect a concussion, we are able to help facilitate a doctor's referral.
Concussion forms are located on the forms tab. There you will find the symptom check list, our referral form, as well as at-home instructions that can help guide the Dos and Don'ts for when you have a concussion.
All Athletes, band, and Cheer will have to do a Sway Baseline Assessment to be able to participate in any practice, scrimmage, performance, or contest before, during, or after school.
All athletes who are diagnosed by a physician are required to complete a 5-Day Return to Play Protocol with an athletic trainer or supervising healthcare provider before returning to their sport with no restrictions.
Administration
Athlete's medical records are housed with the Sports Medicine Staff from physicals to doctors notes. Athletes are required by UIL to have an annual Sports Physical. Physicals must be turned in to and approved by the Sports Medicine Staff. They will then be added to the athlete's file. For more information on physicals, please see the forms page.
Any time an athlete sees a doctor they MUST bring a copy of the doctors note to the Sports Medicine Staff. This is REQUIRED by UIL. This is to ensure the safety of an athlete and that all requirements from the doctor are being followed. This includes Chiropractor visits. Here at Academy, we recommend athletes bring our Release to Treat Form with them. This allows the Doctor to check off which treatments and rehab exercises we may do with an athlete so that we my provide the best care possible. A copy of the release to treat form can be found on the forms page.
