Welcome to the APHS Social Sciences Department, where we are Driven to Succeed! Our goal is to help students understand the past, examine the present, and become informed, thoughtful citizens prepared to shape the future.

Mr. Lopez

I’m David Lopez, a Civics and U.S. History teacher who is passionate about helping students understand the events, ideas, and people that have shaped our nation. In my classroom, I focus on making history relevant and helping students develop a strong understanding of government, citizenship, and their role in society. I maintain high expectations while creating an engaging and supportive environment where students are encouraged to think critically, ask questions, and become informed and responsible citizens.

Mr. Morella

Mr. Morella is an Italian-Venezuelan-American educator with a bachelor’s degree from Florida International University and a passion for working with young people. He believes that meaningful relationships are at the heart of education and strives to create a classroom where students feel welcomed, respected, challenged, and encouraged to grow. As a World History teacher, he enjoys helping students connect the people, cultures, and events of the past to the world they live in today.

Outside the classroom, Mr. Morella has an extensive background in soccer as both a player and coach and holds a U.S. Soccer National “C” Coaching License. His experiences in education and athletics have shaped his belief in the importance of teamwork, discipline, perseverance, and character, values he hopes to instill in his students both academically and personally.

Born and raised in Ecuador, moved to Miami when I was 14. Attended Christopher Columbus High School, 3-year letterman, Senior Award Baseball, All-District Team, District Player of the Year, All-Dade team, Marist Achievement Award, Outstanding Academic Achievement 2018. Attended Miami Dade College with a Baseball Scholarship and graduated with an Associate of Arts with an Exercise Science concentration. Attended Loyola University New Orleans with a Baseball Scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Science with a Psychological Pre-Health concentration.
