John Hoang currently serves as the school counselor at Academia Avance’s Highland Park and Sycamore campus. He provides counseling services for the middle school and high school level. Prior to his transition as a full-time school counselor, he served as a program supervisor to support students with autism and special needs. His love for the field of education began with supporting “at-risk” students from Orange County to Los Angeles County. During this time, he gained knowledge and experience by supporting school-aged students to young adults, while serving in different capacities such as public schools, charter schools, and juvenile detention facilities.  John is passionate about the social emotional learning of students and helping them develop a deeper connection with themselves. He holds a Masters of Science in school counseling, a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Cal State Long Beach, and has completed all of his coursework in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis. In his spare time, he enjoys outdoor activities and staying active with sports.
