In the spring (actual date TBA) , Juniors and Seniors who have above a 3.6 unweighted GPA will be sent an email welcoming them to apply to NHS.

Students who meet the following qualifications are welcome to apply:

1.  An applicant must be a junior or senior.

2.  An applicant must have a minimum 3.6 unweighted GPA.

3.  An applicant must be able to indicate at least one verifiable leadership role since entering high school either in the school or community and one positive leadership accomplishment in that role.  The potential member must be currently active in two or more school organizations.

4.  An applicant must have completed a minimum of ten verifiable service hours since their freshman year.

5.  An applicant must be able to get two positive staff recommendations (at least one from a core teacher) and one positive community recommendation to attest to your upstanding character.

Once the application is received, the application will go through the SELECTION process: 

Selection for membership is by a Faculty Council and is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Once selected, members have the responsibility to continue to demonstrate these qualities.”

Selection Process:

1. Collection of applications.

2. Feedback open from all staff about applicants.

3. Faculty Council (FC)—made up of five staff members chosen by principal—reviews and votes on applicants. (NHS advisers do not vote)

4. FC may invite any student to a meeting to discuss or clarify application.

5. Majority vote by the FC determines membership.

6. Decision letters or emails distributed

There is no appeal process.

However, all denied applicants are given constructive feedback useful in next year’s application.
