Be the Leader of Your Own Story

The 2022-2023 theme at SME is... "Be the Leader of Your Own Story"! We will be building our leadership and life skills this year through love, laughter, learning, and leading. South Mebane is a proud Leader in Me school!

The Leader in Me is Franklin Covey’s whole school transformation process. It teaches 21st century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader. Students will learn The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People through work in their Leader in Me handbooks, videos and activities. The first three habits (1-3) "start with me" and then the next three (4-6) are focused on "play well with others." Habit 7 is all about taking care of yourself. The classroom posters for The 7 Habits are pictured below! By hearing the same language at home and at school, you send the children a strong message of what you believe is important and that we are all on the same team—the team that wants to help them succeed. I truly believe when parents and schools support one another, the sky is the limit!
