There are many ways that students can locate scholarships and free money.
Remember that scholarships or grants are FREE money, and you should never pay to search, apply for, or receive one. For more information about avoiding scholarship and financial aid scams, please visit www.ftc.gov/scholarshipscams.
If you have any questions, please ask your counselor or our college advisor.

Robertson Scholars Leadership Program
The Robertson Scholars Leadership Program is a four year, full-tuition, room and board and summer stipend merit scholarship for students who attend Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (www.robertsonscholars.org). Our application is now open to all students. We do not require/accept nominations. As a counselor who has previously had students apply for our program I wanted to ensure that you were aware of a few key facts about our application process and have attached a PDF file that outlines our selection process for you to share with your students. Students can learn more about our program by signing up for one of our information sessions through our website.
KEY FACTS
Students must apply directly for the Robertson using the Robertson Application. While the UNC and Duke admissions offices state that they refer candidates to us, our process is over before they have an opportunity to review the majority of their files. For example, last year Duke had approximately 60,000 applicants and referred only 10 files to us. If a student truly wants a chance to be considered for the Robertson, they need to submit our application.
We have two distinct application deadlines. October 15 and November 15. Students can choose either deadline. Those applying by the earlier deadline will learn whether they advance to the group activity portion of our selection process by December 31. Providing them with the opportunity to apply EDII or to complete other applications by regular decision deadlines.
Students can apply to UNC or Duke by any of their respective application deadlines. They may apply early to our program and RD to the universities. Students must apply to and be admitted to at least one of the universities to be awarded the Robertson.
Both recommendation letters must be received for an application to be deemed complete. For example, if they submit their application by October 15th but it is missing a letter(s) of recommendation, their application is incomplete. Those students will be considered in the pool with students who complete by the November 15th deadline.
The Group Activity is not the same as being a Semi-Finalist. The attached flyer breaks down the distinct stages in our application process.
Advancing to the Group Activity or later the Semi-Finalist Interview is not an indicator of admissibility to UNC-Chapel Hill or Duke. We realize some students find this frustrating, but UNC and Duke have not had an opportunity to review all of their files at the time we issue our invitations. If we only interviewed students with admit decisions at the time of our interviews, we would be limited to EA and ED candidates which we feel puts RD students at an unfair disadvantage.
If you have any questions I am happy to speak with you. This is my tenth year heading up recruitment and selection for the Robertson and we have made many changes to our process over the past decade. You can most easily reach me via email at brody@robetsonscholars.org.
