Scott-Herndon Educational Foundation Scholarship Opportunity

Deadline Friday June 15th

The deadline for applications is June 15, 2024.  Please share with your students.  More details are below.

The Scott-Herndon Educational Foundation is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization founded by the descendants of Garland Herndon and Bertha Scott Herndon. Garland, a truck driver, farmer, and entrepreneur, and Bertha, a college educated teacher who opened her home and school to those in need, were both devout church and community leaders. Together they made a formidable pair as they worked to uplift the community in unique ways by combining the expertise of a talented tradesman with the astuteness of a master teacher.

Our mission is to provide underserved communities with the financial, academic, and governmental support needed to achieve their educational goals. Our needs-based institution offers awards to North Carolina residents of Alamance, Chatham, Durham, Orange, and Wake counties. This year we are seeking to award academically successful high school students who are experiencing financial hardship.

Eligible candidates include high school seniors currently or recently enrolled in a secondary school in one of the aforementioned North Carolina counties.  A Scott-Herndon Educational Scholarship candidate has or will graduate from high school during the 2023-2024 academic year with a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher (as calculated by the NCDPI).

Eligible students are provided a sum of $1,000.00 for tuition and supplies assistance while pursuing a bachelor’s or associate’s degree or technical certification at a post-secondary educational institution (college, university, community college, or trade school).

Please note the following criteria for eligibility:

2.      A high school senior who has or will graduate during the 2023-2024 academic year with a GPA of 2.50 or better.
