About me

Education and Experience

I am so excited to have the opportunity to serve as Garrett Elementary School's literacy coach this year! The 2021-2022 school year is my 14th year as an educator. I graduated from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2008 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education with a concentration in English. After earning my degree, I taught in 4th and 5th grades for 6 years at B. Everett Jordan Elementary, then three years at Hawfields Middle School as a 7th grade ELA teacher. After 9 years in ABSS, I accepted a position as a literacy coach with Orange County Schools at New Hope Elementary in 2017. I completed my Master's of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction during the summer of 2020 from Appalachian State University in North Carolina. I am a licensed Curriculum Specialist (K-12), in addition to my licenses in Elementary Education (K-6), Middle Grade ELA (5-9), and Middle Grades Science (5-9).

Family

My husband and I will celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary this October. He teaches PE and health at Hawfields Middle School. We have two children, Amelia and Cooper. Our daughter, Amelia, is in 2nd grade this year here at Garrett and loves reading, soccer, dance, and Friday Movie Nights at home with our family. Cooper is 5 years old and will begin kindergarten this school year. He loves soccer, wrestling with his dad, and snuggling. Our family has three dogs, Maggie, Lola, and Rosie. We love spending time together and being outside.
