Always turn the pages of a book at the corner. If you don't, you'll rip the page!
Always make sure you have clean hands before touching and turning the pages of a book.
It's okay to read on the floor, but never leave a book on the floor when you walk away.
Always keep food and drinks away from books. (Tip: Putting the book in a plastic bag inside your backpack might protect the book from leaking water bottles.)
Never write in a book, and always keep the book away from babies, toddlers, and pets because they might not know the rules!
Never leave a book outside.
Always have a safe place to put the book when you're not reading it so you don't lose it.
Always keep glue and anything else that could destroy a book away from books.
Never set a book upside down with the pages open--that destroys the binding and, over time, the pages will fall out! Instead, make sure you use a bookmark.
Always use a clean, flat material (like a piece of paper or ribbon) as a bookmark. Never use anything thick (like a pencil), and never fold the pages of a book.
Always bring the book back before the due date (or see Ms. Laflamme if you need to renew the book).
Always use a shelf-marker when browsing so you can put the book back in the correct location if you change your mind.
It's okay if you forget to use a shelf-marker, but if that happens, you must give the book to Ms. Laflamme and she'll make sure it gets put back in the correct location.
Always make sure the book won't fall on the ground when you place it on the book return cart.
Never throw or toss a book, and never try to balance a book.
Never read a book while walking.
Always carry books safely according to the three ways you can safely carry a book (see below).
Bring the book to your chest and wrap your arms around the book like you're giving it a big hug.
Hold the book like a lunch tray with both hands.
Hold the book under your arm, but always make sure your hand is also holding it underneath.
