Students who take Algebra II in grade 11 and are interested in a pathway to Calculus AE in grade 12 may study Precalculus over the summer at an accredited college or university. Following successful completion of their summer course, students will also take an ABRHS placement exam.

What is this program a pathway to?
This program is a pathway for enrollment in Calculus AE.
This program is not a pathway for enrollment in AP Calculus.
What steps are involved in the summer study?
AB course registration (February): Follow your teacher's recommendation to register for a Precalculus class next year during the registration window.
College course registration (February - April): Email Mrs. Carabellese (jcarabellese@abschools.org) by April break to express your interest in summer Precalc and share which course you will be registering for. Then register for your summer course.
Summer course (May - August): Successful completion of the class with a 70% or higher.

AB placement exam (August): Successful completion of placement exam with a 70% or higher.
Here is the review packet for the placement exam. If your summer course does not cover all of these topics, you will need to self-study to fill any gaps.
The assessment will take place in the third week of August.
Upon successful completion of the placement exam, Mrs. Carabellese will change your course enrollment to Calculus AE and the data team will send confirmation.

You are welcome to take a class at the college or university of your choosing. Here are some pre-approved classes that have some alignment with the ABRHS curriculum.

Your course should cover as many of the same topics as possible as the Precalculus / Intro to Calculus course in the AB Program of Studies (p.34-35). Summer Course
The Early College courses will appear on the transcript just like other ABRHS classes. Students will receive a final grade in the course that will appear on their transcript.
As a semester class, students will earn 2.5 credits upon successful completion.
Classes through dual enrollment are calculated in the unweighted gpa, but not the weighted gpa.
