What is Artsonia?
Artsonia is an online art gallery for students. The service is free, and safe for students to post their work for friends and family to see. At Conant, I use Artsonia as part of my Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB) curriculum. Students are expected to understand what a portfolio of work is, and keep record of their artistic growth and understanding. Instead of doing this in a tradition paper form, I use Artsonia to create digital portfolios.
In addition to having your student's artwork online and accessible to family and friends, you can also purchase your student's work on various keepsakes. If you choose to do this, 20% of the proceeds will come back to Blanchard to help fund the art program.
Will my child have an Artsonia account?
Yes! Every student at Conant will have an Artsonia account. Student accounts are typically available after they have created their first finished piece of art. Thank you for your patience as we upload our artwork to the gallery.
When your child's account is created, you will receive an email instructing you on how to set up your parent account on Artsonia (see image below). Please note that you do not need to have your student's artwork be public for them to be able to use Artsonia in school.
If you do not receive an email to sign your child up for Artsonia by the end of your child's art quarter, or if you need an access code, please email me at: mmastrolia@abschools.org.
I have more than one child, can I link multiple student accounts to one parent account?
Yes! When you are on your Parent Account Start Page, look below your name and any important messages for a link that says "add new child." Enter your other student's screen name to find them and link them to your account. Their screen name can be found in the original email sent from Artsonia (see image above).
What is classroom mode on Artsonia?
Classroom mode allows your student to safely log onto their Artsonia account while in school and upload their own artwork, artist statements, and reflections. You do not need to give your child public permission for them to use classroom mode in school.
Can I turn off email notifications for Artsonia?
If you need to change the settings for the emails that Artsonia may be sending you please review the following steps:
On your Parent Account Start Page (when you first log in) in the top right hand corner, click on the "edit my profile" link.
Once you are on the new page, scroll down a bit to find a section titled "Email Notification Opt-Ins."
You should see three blue check boxes with email categories. If you do not want to receive emails for a specific category click on the box to uncheck it.
Scroll back to the top of your page and hit the green update button.
Do I need to purchase items on Artsonia in order to keep my student's artwork?
No! Purchasing your children's artwork on a keepsake is just another perk Artsonia offers to families. If you do not want to purchase anything, your child's artwork will still be returned home to you by the end of the school year.
Can my student add art to their account at home?
Yes! Parents and guardians can help students to upload any artwork they create at home using the Artsonia App.
If you download the Artsonia App, you can log into your parent account and post artwork for your child. This artwork can also be purchased on items, just like the teacher uploaded work!
I hope that this information helps your family enjoy Artsonia's services even more! If you have a question that was not addressed here, please email me at: mmastrolia@abschools.org.
