A typical Science Olympiad tournament involves 23 events, and students of all scientific interests can find niches here. Example events include Protein Modeling, in which students model and answer questions about proteins on the forefront of biology; and Robot Arm, which involves designing and constructing a robotic arm to move objects. Science Olympiad is committed to helping K-through-12 students explore science by using a competitive setting to promote interest, problem solving skills, and teamwork.
The Acton-Boxborough Science Olympiad Team is one of the most successful academic teams in the high school, having won the West Suburban Science League numerous times and the Massachusetts State competition for the last 17 years in a row. The team is entirely studentrun, with all preparation done individually. The team's best finish at Nationals came in 2024, when it placed 5th.
