Dear Families of 8 Red Students:

Welcome to the 8 Red team!  We’re excited to get to know our 8 Red students and look forward to a positive and productive year.  

Our most important goal is that our students feel comfortable and know they are a valued part of the team.  In addition, we strive to meet students where they are academically, engage our students in thought-provoking lessons, and help our students become independent learners.  

Our team maintains a website that compiles homework for all five subjects.  Parents and students can find the link to this calendar on the 8 Red website, accessed via the RJ Grey website.  When your student has additional questions about assignments, please encourage them to ask the subject teacher. We appreciate it when students advocate for themselves; this helps students gain confidence and independence.

What can you do to help your student become an engaged and independent learner? Talk with your child about schoolwork;  your child is more apt to communicate their interest in a class if their parents ask! Encourage your child to ask for assistance when they are struggling. Most importantly, urge your child to clarify with the teacher anything when they need help and to discuss concerns that may come up.   In these ways, you help us to perform one of our most important jobs as eighth-grade teachers: to prepare our students to be responsible, engaged, and joyful members of a learning community.

We look forward to working with you so that your child has a successful and enjoyable school year.  We hope to see you at our Back to School Night on Thursday, October 8 from 6:45 - 8:30 pm.
