6th to 7th Grade Transition Info
for 2021-2022 School Year

Welcome to RJ Grey!

We hope you are all staying safe and healthy. We still aren't able to offer all of you the in-person meetings and visits to RJ Grey that we would typically provide during the Spring months as a way to help everyone become prepared and excited for joining our school community next Fall. However, we are still committed to preparing everyone for this important transition and finding ways to provide all of you with useful information about our school.

Some of what we include below is related to the formal registration process which we need all families to complete by the due dates that we've shared. The other materials that we are including are focused on giving you a snapshot of life at RJ Grey and some reasons that we think you should be excited about coming to the Junior High next year! We think that the resources below should answer most questions. For any additional questions, please don't hesitate to contact us!

Formal Registration Process - The time sensitive stuff!

  1. Read the Registration Packet

On Mon, 4/26, Principal Andrew Shen sent a PDF registration packet to all 6th grade parents & guardians. It's full of important details. Grab a cup of tea, get comfortable, and give it a good read. It will make the whole transition process much simpler for you and your child!

2. Attend "Family Info Webinar"

On Wed 4/28 at 6:45 PM, Principal Shen will host a Family Info Webinar to share about what it's like to be a 7th grader and how to complete the registration process.

3. Register on Parent Portal

From Wed 5/5 through Friday 5/14, our Parent Portal will be open to formally begin the registration process. You will indicate your child's preferences for World Language and Grey Block Electives, and view any recommended services if applicable. Please reference the registration packet for detailed instructions on how to successfully register.

Note: there is no need to wake up early on 5/5 to select your child's choices! Submission time has no bearing on scheduling as long as it occurs by the 5/14 deadline.

4. Optional: Fill out the Family Information Form

At the core of RJ Grey is our emphasis on the team model. Please read our Teaming page to learn more about teaming at RJ Grey.

After reading the Teaming page, we hope you will understand why we are not able to build teams based upon individual requests. We do, however, also understand that there may at times be information worth considering during the placement process. Should that be the case, you may complete the optional Family Information Form. This form will be available beginning Wed May 5th and must be completed by May 21, 2021.

Daily Life at RJ Grey

Teams - your "home" within RJ Grey

At the core of RJ Grey is our emphasis on the team model. Teaming allows us to take a large school with many students and create a set of smaller communities. These teams coordinate learning activities & team-based programs and facilitate communication between teachers, families, and students. We are proud of all of our teams, and we believe that your child can be successful on any one of them. All teams provide the academic rigor, social opportunities, and support that are integral to a meaningful middle school experience.
