In addition to serving individuals with disabilities directly, the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs, Family Connections, Able South Carolina, and SC Autism Society all provide a full range of services or referrals to help families with housing, health care options, food and clothing, and respite care.
Almost all the resources offered on this website are dedicated to students transitioning out of high school. SCVRD, Goodwill, and SC Works are all focused on assisting students achieve and maintain employment, while the LEAP Program and Spartanburg Community College primarily help students in higher academic settings. All other service providers focus on a range of services, but all have unique ways to help young adults who are transitioning.
SCVRD, Able SC, Goodwill Job Connections, and the SC Autism Society all have ways of directly or indirectly assisting individuals with disabilities on the job. SCATP can provide equipment to help individuals who are working and need specific accommodations.
While all of these services can help in some way, SCVRD, Goodwill Job Connections, and SC Works are all direct service providers who specialize in helping individuals find and maintain jobs.
Able SC and SC Autism Society, are focused on helping individuals with disabilities exercise as much autonomy and independence as they choose. This can range from living completely on your own and working independently, or just mastering simple household tasks like doing laundry. SCATP is also able to suggest and provide assistive technology to make these tasks easier.
