يتسبب تلوث المحيطات بالبلاستيك والمعادن السامة والمواد الكيميائية المصنعة والمبيدات الحشرية والصرف الصحي والجريان السطحي للزراعة في قتل وتلوث الأسماك التي تغذي 3 مليارات شخص التلوث الساحلي ينشر عدوى تهدد الحياة.

وتظهر الأبحاث أن المحيطات تتلوث بمجموعة معقدة من السموم بما في ذلك الزئبق، ومبيدات الآفات، والمواد الكيميائية الصناعية، ونفايات البترول، والجريان السطحي الزراعي، والمواد الكيميائية المصنعة المضمنة في البلاستيك. وتصل هذه المواد السامة في المحيط إلى الناس، وذلك بشكل أساسي عن طريق تناول المأكولات البحرية الملوثة.

LOI 3 - The Sultanate of Oman banned the use and distribution of single-use plastic bags for shopping and other activities from January 2021.

Brought about by a Ministerial decision issued in March 2020, the single-use plastic bags that were once widely distributed at shopping centres must be switched in favour of more environmentally-friendly options.

Plastic bags never degrade completely, which shows that as more of them are produced by companies, more are introduced into the environment. Therefore, the more the amount of plastic bags, the more there is plastic pollution and its effects. Banning the use of plastic bags will help reduce this great effect.
