Course Guide

Reading 7, RAC 7 and RAC 8:

  • Students enrolled in these courses will complete content across various texts that encourage the development of critical- thinking, collaboration, creativity and communication skills. Students will explore both Fiction and Non-Fiction Texts to help develop reading strategies to strengthen comprehension and enhance their learning experience. Throughout the course of the year, students will utilize classroom tools such as Study Island and Google Classrooms. Over the course of the year we will complete a minimum of 2 novels, and a Non- Fiction Unit, which will focus on the Holocaust. Through these, and other texts, we will develop comprehension skills and challenge ourselves to seek deeper meaning.

  • Reading 7 student will meet every day of a 5 day cycle

  • RAC 7 and RAC 8 students will meet 2 days of a 5 day cycle

Assignments:

  • During class, activities, assignments, and directions will be shared via teacher instruction and/or posted on Google Classroom.

  • Most assignments will be submitted through Google Classroom. This may include: responding to a posted question, completing and turning in a provided assignment, or uploading a photograph or attachment of your work.

  • During and after classroom instruction, feedback will be provided verbally and in writing; sometimes it will be directed to an entire class, and sometimes it will be individualized. Students can expect that work submitted will also be returned via Google Classroom. The returned work may include corrections, suggestions, questions, and compliments. If there is an opportunity to re-submit work, that will be directly stated. Otherwise, returned work is yours to review.

  • Due dates will be posted in Google Classroom, final grades will be posted in Skyward. In order to be successful, it is your responsibility to ensure that all of your assignments are complete, on time, and a reflection of your best effort. Work turned in incomplete or late will receive a reduced score. In extenuating circumstances, please communicate your need for flexibility.

Grading:

  • Grades will be posted on Skyward.

  • Skyward will also list assignment categories and weights. For all RAC and Reading classes: tests 35%; quizzes 35%; homework: 5%; classwork; 20%, and class participation: 5%.

  • Letter grades will be calculated using the Abington School District scale: 90-100% A, 80-89% B, 70-79% C, 60-69% D, 40-59% E.

  • For secondary students, the year is divided into four marking periods: September 9, 2021-November 15, 2021(marking period one), November 16, 2021-January 31, 2022 (marking period two), February 1, 2022-April 7, 2022 (marking period three), and April 8, 2022-June 16, 2022 (marking period four).
